This study used a randomized control methodology, in which 116 subjects were assigned to either a group that took a multivitamin every day or a group that took a placebo. This methodology is considered the most rigorous type of research design and is referred to as the “gold standard” in scientific research. The scientists then investigated how people felt physically and emotionally while they participated in the study.
The Type of Multivitamin Used in the Study

So how did the study participants feel when they took these supplements on a daily basis?
The Participants’ Perception of Energy and Mood
The 116 people who participated in this 16-week study were healthy adults who did not smoke, ranging in age from 20 to 50 years old. The subjects were randomly assigned either to a group that took the multivitamin or a placebo. The researchers administered tests at the beginning, midpoint, and end of the study. These tests evaluated the participants’ mood, energy level, and quality of sleep.
The investigators found that 17.2 percent of the people who took the multivitamins reported that their energy levels had improved while they were taking the supplements, which the researchers reported was statistically significant.
Additionally, they found that 22.5 percent of the subjects in the multivitamin group indicated that they experienced greater mental alertness when taking the supplements and 15.1 percent of the people in the study reported their mood and emotional state improved. Moreover, the majority of the participants reported that they thought they slept better when they were taking the supplement.

This study is the first of its kind to use the stringent randomized control model to investigate how people felt while taking multivitamins. The results of the study suggest that people who take multivitamins tend not only to be healthier because they are getting all the nutrients they need, but also feel sharper and more energetic when they take the supplements.
