After 10 years in the fitness industry, I believe I’ve seen enough to write a book, but my goal in life and also when it comes to the gym is to help people become better, to grow and discover themselves with kindness and honesty, so please consider this brief guideline as nothing but a guideline, which doesn’t hide any ounce of superiority or personal hatred.
In my opinion, this is what the gym guideline should include:
Greet everyone, even if you don’t know them, and smile
You’re not in a competitive environment, there’s no need to be tense, the gym is the place where you speak about yourself by means of your work, and not by means of the masks that you’re wearing. There’s no need to start telling your life story, but a first positive contact with the gym’s clients and staff will help you integrate easier in the community.
Try to reach the gym before the class starts
Especially if you have questions to ask at the reception or questions for your trainer, and if you want to fill in your registration chart, save some extra 15 minutes to read the membership contract and to receive all the necessary documents. It’s frustrating for everyone to arrive exactly 2 minutes before the class starts or to make a subscription and expect to have all your questions answered.

Attend classes for beginners if you haven’t trained in the last 6 weeks
Because it’s more useful to work out correctly for an hour rather than struggle in the back of an advanced class, risking feeling sick or getting injured.
Don’t change your outfit in the toilet or in the shower cabin
Please, we’re all in a hurry and we need to use the toilet to pee after working out and it’s extremely annoying when someone spends 5 minutes in the toilet just to change clothes. If you’re a shy person, wait 7 minutes until the locker room empties and then you can enjoy all the privacy that you desire.
Spend a few minutes before class talking to your instructor.
Especially if you have health issues or special medical instructions, because it’s important that he knows about these aspects in advance, so he can change your exercises.
Dress in an appropriate way
That is in a sports equipment suitable for your training. It’s unpleasant and gross to reveal intimate parts of your body during exercising. If you’re a girl, don’t forget the sports bra, as it’s the healthiest option for your breasts. And no, you don’t need a push-up bra in the gym, no matter what you might think.
Towel and hygiene
Always bring a towel to the gym, and use it to wipe yourself, the mats and the equipment you’ve used. There’s nothing more unpleasant than touching someone else’s sweat. And please, don’t use too much perfume before entering the gym. A good antiperspirant is all you need when exercising.
Don’t talk to your friends or other gym clients during group classes
You’re disturbing everyone present, and it’s extremely rude towards the instructor, plus you’re losing your focus on exercising. You’re here to train, not chit-chat.
Phone, pictures and Social Media Apps at the gym
Forget about them, they’re not a good idea. Don’t post your pictures at the gym in which other gym clients appear, as you’re invading their privacy. And please, don’t answer the phone during classes, and don’t text. If it’s something extremely important, leave the room without disturbing everyone, but don’t answer the phone during classes, as it’s highly annoying and rude.
Don’t be a drama queen
Something constantly hurts us when going to the gym, that’s why we come here, so that our muscles hurt. There’s no need to moan and whine as if you’re having a tooth extraction without anesthesia.
Ladies, make-up at the gym is useless
You sweat when exercising, so the smartest thing to do is cleanse you face before exercising and reapply your make-up after showering. This way, you can protect your skin, look like a sportswoman, and not like panda bears, and you’ll also not be using the gym’s towels as make-up removal wipes.
Do yourself a favor and don’t spread your venom. Even if you may not like some people, there’s absolutely no need to create a negative atmosphere because of that, as the gym is a place that people go to in order to enjoy themselves, to get rid of stress, to become healthier and more beautiful. It takes positive energy for that, so please, don’t gossip.
