We all want to be happy in life. It may seem like an impossible task at times, but it really doesn’t have to be. The reality is that happy people have certain habits that they center their life around.
It’s a wonderful thing to enjoy being happy, and this is especially true when you create a foundation that keeps you happy for the long term. This is about making choices and creating the life that you want to live. Though this may seem hard to commit to at first, this is truly something that you can enjoy and feel good about well into the future.
1. They Surround Themselves With Supportive People
Happy people give a lot and they want to receive that back in return. They will support their friends and family, and they want to be surrounded by the same type of support.
The thing to remember is that you are only as good as your support network. If you surround yourself with good, happy, positive, and supportive people then it brings you joy. They often try to filter out the ones that hold them back.
Happy people want to be surrounded by people who help them to be happy and stay that way. Though it may seem like a tall order, it’s really not when you look around and see who these people really are.
2. They Schedule “Me Time”
No matter how busy life may get, happy people schedule some time out just for themselves. This may be a workout, time to read a good book, or time at the spa.
They recognize the value of time to just decompress and work through stress. They know that in order to achieve true happiness and hold onto it, they have to take time out from a busy day.
This “me time” is a regularly scheduled occurrence that brings them much joy that they can hold onto. This is a really great way to focus on true well being, and happy people see the value in that.
3. They Are Confident and Comfortable in Their Own Skin
While they may have self doubt, they certainly don’t let this rule out. They choose to be confident and really find inner strength.
Happy people feel comfortable in their own skin. They see their value and they want to be with others who feel the same. They make a choice to be positive and feel good about themselves every single day.
It’s not always easy to be confident, but it is at times when they feel down that this helps the most. Choosing to feel good about yourself ultimately makes you much happier in the long run, and that’s so rewarding.
4. They Do Things Just Because They Enjoy Them
They find joy in things in life and they want to do more of these things. They don’t do things only that they have to, but rather they include things that just make them happy.
Everybody gets busy but happy people do things sometimes just because it makes them happy. They don’t get caught up in always having a schedule or an agenda. They recognize that sometimes you just have to live life.
This may seem frivolous to some people, but happy people know that sometimes you have to do something just to feel joy. This isn’t a waste of time but rather a commitment to their overall happiness.
5. They Don’t Focus on The Past
Everybody has things in their past that they wish they could change. This is a part of life, but it’s what you do with those things that makes a difference.
Happy people don’t dwell on the past because they recognize nothing good comes of it. They learn from past mistakes and they carry those lessons with them moving forward.
They don’t have regrets about what happened in the past. They recognize it happened, then they do their best to move forward without worrying about it. They know that learning and focusing on the future is far more productive and valuable.
6. They Are Part of Good Healthy Relationships
They know that loving and being loved is one of the best feelings in the world. They want to be a part of relationships that make them happy and allow them to bring happiness to others.
Everybody has been through bad relationships, but happy people want to learn from these mistakes. They want a partner and this is what they seek out. They don’t settle but rather hold fast to the type of person they want to be with.
Happy people have good relationships and good marriages because they see the value of the connection. They work at their relationships and want to be with people who do the same. They often end up with other happy people because of the positive vibe that they give off.
7. They Give a Lot and Get a Lot
To get a lot you have to give a lot to the people around you. This is something that happy people readily recognize and they gear their life accordingly to this thought.
That means that they are the type of friend that they want to have in their life. They emulate what it means to give to others and they are somebody that can be counted on.
Happy people give to charity, give of their time, and find really positive feelings in acting in this way. They know that they will get a lot but their focus is on giving to others, for it makes them feel better than anything else.
8. They Understand that Life is Short
The reality is that life truly is short and happy people recognize this. They want to make the most of the life they are given and therefore they do just that.
This doesn’t mean that they live without regard for the future or that they don’t take responsibility seriously. It simply means that they are able to focus on the present and what the future may hold.
It means that they make the most out of each day and life live to the fullest. This isn’t just a cliché, but rather the way that they live their lives. This is their mantra and they make each day as great as they possibly can.
9. They Forgive and They Move Past Things
Happy people don’t hold onto things and drive themselves crazy with ill feelings. They may get upset, angry, sad, or frustrated about things but they feel it and then let it go.
In order to be truly happy it’s essential to let go of things. Rather than holding onto grudges or negative feelings, it’s much more empowering to let them go. This isn’t an easy thing but it’s very liberating when you do it.
Happy people recognize the value of letting go of the little things. Even if something seems big at the time, they know that it will weigh them down. If you feel negative feelings face them and then let them go—you’ll be a lot happier for it!
10. They Understand What Makes Them Happy and They Embrace It
The definition of happiness and success is different for everyone. Bearing that in mind, it’s important to create your own definition and use it moving forward.
What makes you happy may not make somebody else happy. You are however very aware of what your definition of happiness is. You understand it, you own it, and therefore you use it moving forward.
You do whatever you can to welcome in that joy because you know it makes you feel good. Happy people are that way because they are comfortable with identifying what makes them happy and they use this to move them forward in their lives.
Happy people may feel challenged at times, but they most certainly won’t give into negative feelings. They make a choice every single day to be positive and feel happy. They are confident and they see their own value.
They surround themselves with people who make them feel good, and they create a life that will bring them lasting joy. It’s so much easier to be happy, though it does require a commitment and some effort on your part.
